WKA SCOTTISH CHAMPIONSHIPS

A.I.M.A.A Scotland attended the WKA Scottish Championships on Sunday the 8th of February. This championships was the official qualifier to the WKA World Championships, which will be held in Spain in late October.

Master Kirkwood attended the event with Instructors and Students from his Cho's TKD  school in Blantyre. Instructors Mr John Kirkwood and Mrs Cecilia Gough, attended the event with Master Kirkwood, accompanied by fellow students Kirsty Gough, Kara Gough, Tammy Sutherland, Lisa Aitken, Rachel Miller, Ashley Wilmot and Adam Wilmot.

Mr & Mrs Belgacem who run both the Hamilton and Larkhall schools of Cho's TKD attended the event with students Ross Martin, George Morrison, Alex Walker, Michael Farrell, Liam Walker and Sharan Tagore.  The event saw over 200 people attend and it was a fantastic event with some serious fights!

The competition kicked off with the point sparring divisions, starting with the littlest of competitors. The A.I.M.A.A squad did exceptionally well in the point sparring sections and saw Master Kirkwood's students take plenty of Gold and Silver in their divisions. The squad went on to claim more medals in the continuous sparring divisions, with fighters Kirsty Gough, Lisa Aitken, Adam Wilmot and Rachel Miller taking Gold in their weight/age categories.

A.I.M.A.A Scotland Instructor Mr John Kirkwood had 2 qualifying rounds in his point sparring division, and had some pretty serious fighters to contend with, however he beat them and went onto the final fight. This final was not only fast but was quickly over as John Kirkwood took his opponent out with a spinning heel kick to the face, and knocked him clean out!

Other A.I.M.A.A Instructors competing on the day where Mr & Mrs Belgacem, who undertook point sparring. Mrs Belgacem won a Bronze in the ladies points and Mr Belgacem took a Silver in his division.  However one of the highlights was Mr Alex Walker who was entered into the +35 yrs division in points. Mr Walker who is a sprightly 50+ Tae Kwon Do expert, did A.I.M.A.A proud in fighting youngsters in this division and was only piped to the post for a medal.  You don't make students like this nowadays, strong in heart and mind!

The last divisions was the hard forms and this saw our young students and adults take Gold, Silver and Bronze in this event.
