DUBLIN SEMINAR 9TH MARCH 2008

MR DECLAN DERMODY ROLESTOWN SCHOOL OF CHO'S TAEKWONDO

Master Kirkwood would like to take this opportunity to thank his senior students for travelling with him to Ireland for his seminars. Master Kirkwood was accompanied by his son Ryan Kirkwood, Mr William Reid, Jack Reid, Mrs Cecila Gough, Kara Gough and Kirsty Gough. Master Kirkwood would also like to thank Mr Will Power and Mr Declan Dermody for holding the seminars in their schools as well as organising them for A.I.M.A.A Ireland.

He would also like to especially thank his Instructor and friend Master John Darcy who supported him throughout the trip and travelled all the way from Dublin to be at his side in Limerick. A special thank you also goes to Master Peter Byrne who also supported Master Kirkwood by attending the Limerick seminar. A.I.M.A.A Ireland are very fortunate to have two Masters on their doorstep, two men who are at the forefront of A.I.M.A.A and the art of Taekwondo.

Master Kirkwood has overwhelmed by the support from A.I.M.A.A Ireland and was very honoured and humbled by the support shown. He thanks all the A.I.M.A.A Ireland Instructors, Assistant Instructors and students for attending the two day event and looks forward to teaching in Ireland again.

The seminars broke down the basics of point sparring showing the basic moves for blocking and counter attacking. This was followed by combinations of hand and leg techniques. Master Kirkwood is still fast at this sport and still competes today with competitors half his age.

The second part of the seminar was a 45 minute session of plyometrics, which trains the muscles for explosive power. Explosive power is one of the main elements when sparring in points or continuous. Students from both Limerick and Dublin enjoyed the seminar and the plyometrics, which was new to most of them. Master Kirkwood looks forward to teaching again in Ireland and will undertake intermediate and advanced plyometrics to the students next time round.
