MASTER KIRKWOODS DEMO TEAM

Master Kirkwood and his Demo Team attended the recent A.I.M.A.A Ireland Traditional Competition held by Master Darcy. The Demo team were very honoured when Master Darcy requested their presence at the event to show off their skills, after he saw them in action in Scotland at the A.I.M.A.A Scotland Student Awards.  The Team started off the competition with "Team Fusion" a group of young student Black Belts who combined traditional patterns to music. This was followed by Master Kirkwood and his junior students undertaking a group self defence scene. The students got to throw, kick and defend themselves against an adult (Master Kirkwood).

Next on the floor was Jack Reid who is an A.I.M.A.A World Champion in sparring and Destruction. Jack showed off his skills in the "Bo" and demonstrated it in the form of a pattern to the music of "Mortal Combat". The crowd enjoyed this and gave a massive applause. Another group "Celtic Connection" took to the floor. The group was made up of girl students who performed a scene of dance and patterns to Celtic music, as this advanced through their demonstration they were joined by Billy Reid on the floor who demonstrated the art of "Nunchuka".  By this time the demonstration was in full flow as AIMAA World Champion Mr John Kirkwood Jnr took to the floor to execute the pattern of "Moon Moo". John Kirkwood Jnr had won the A.I.M.A.A titles in 2000 and 2004 performing this pattern, and has won numerous British, European and Scottish Titles performing it.

As the demonstration neared the end it came to close with "The Old Men", this performance had the spectators in fits of laughter at the antics of Master Kirkwood and Billy Reid. The scene is set that the two old men are targeted by the local "Neds", are beaten up and left in a heap. The two old men venture to the local Tae Kwon Do club and learn Tae Kwon Do, and then return to fight the local bullies and win their honour back.

The sight of Master Kirkwood and Billy Reid with their old bunnets, coats and walking sticks will be remembered in many minds, however the scene when they learn Tae Kwon Do will definitely be etched as they pranced about in their long shorts and hilarious antics of trying to do kicks, punches as two old dudes!

The demonstration came to and end and the hall exploded into rapturous applause. Master Kirkwood would like to personally thank the demo team members as they have worked over many months, training and practising for the annual awards night, as well as the demonstration in Ireland. Master Kirkwood and Mrs Kirkwood would also like to thank the parents for brining them to training each week, as it is a lot of commitment.

Lastly we would like to personally thank Master Darcy for asking the team to undertake a demonstration at his Traditional Tournament. This was truly an honour for the students, and one they will always remember.
