DAY 3 - GM AMERIS
SEMINAR
 |

As the sun shone over the beautiful city of Washington D.C, we
all embarked on our daily pilgrimage to the fabulous Trinity
College for another active and fun day at A.I.M.A.A Summer Camp!
Today we would be taking classes with Grandmaster Ameris and
Master Fitzgerald, who would split the 100 students into 2
groups.
The morning kicked off with all the high grades going with
Grandmaster Ameris for a 1 and half hour long self defence
class, incorporating locks, throws and takedowns!
Grandmaster Ameris, was in tip top condition and the techniques
he showed on that floor was truly amazing! He showed each and
everyone of us that the simplest of moves could counteract an
act of violence towards us!
As we all emulated what he was teaching, he would go from one
team to another ensuring that they were doing it right!. Master
Darcy and Master Kirkwood assisted in the class also by checking
on the students, correcting any mistakes and answering any
questions they may have had! The Masters also tried out
some of the moves themselves, to ensure their skills where up to
date.
This action packed class was thrilling to watch and the
expertise, knowledge that Grandmaster Ameris knows on this
subject is second to none! A truly inspirational Instructor and
mentor within our association.
From the very young to the very old, everyone enjoyed this
seminar, and everyone left with so much knowledge that everyone
wants to know about, and that is how one can defend themselves !

While
Grandmaster Ameris taught the Senior grades, Master Fitzgerald
kicked started his seminar with the lower grades, taking them
through traditional Taekwondo patterns from low grade to high
grade and one step!
Master Fitzgerald had everyone captivated on the floor, as he
progressed through the A.I.M.A.A patterns, breaking them down to
singular moves to allow the student to perfect the move!
His classes progressed from patterns to one-step, starting from
No 1 and right through to No 55!
Although a lot of students had not gone beyond No 25 or No 30,
they learnt the new ones and tried them out with their partner.

By undertaking this Master Fitzgerald had instilled confidence,
and an overwhelming eagerness to learn more! This class was
truly inspirational to watch, and one that was repeated with the
Black Belt students, who were up next!
During
the full morning all our Junior students where at the far end of the hall playing
various games and the laughter could be heard across the hall.
The group where supervised and taught by Mrs Ameris, Mrs
Farrell, Mrs Gough and Mrs Courpe.
The children had been split into teams and had a ball in the
middle, which they had to get to the other side and score a
goal!
Easy you say, well try doing this lying down, back raised
off the floor and only moving forward using your hands and feet,
like a little crab scurrying about!! it was such a joy to see
all those little happy faces playing this game!
They
also had spent time practising their patterns and one step, as
well as undertake many fun time exercise games! Grandmaster Cho,
watched tenderly over them as they had fun and took great joy in
seeing those beaming faces! Grandmaster Cho had his own
students from Hawaii attend the camp, with the youngest being
only 4 years old!
As the days activities came to a close, everyone lined up to
thank all the Grandmasters and Masters for another fabulous day
at camp!
Everyone
headed home to their hotel or dorm, to freshen up before heading
out to the wonderful city of Washington for more sightseeing and
shopping!
Every day at camp we woke to an incredible 110 degrees of hot
sunshine in the city, which was one of the most beautifully city
we have visited, and the architecture and historical we saw was
overwhelming. To sum up the city in one word - Unbelievable !
