A.I.M.A.A Scotland HQ on the 2nd of September to
take part in the first "Official Close Combat"
seminar held under the direction of International
Instructor Mr James Lawson, 5th Degree.
Mr Lawson has been at the side of
Master Kirkwood over 3 decades and is the co-founder
of A.I.M.A.A Scotland as we know it today! As Mr
Lawson has progressed through his martial art
journey he has learnt new techniques within the
martial arts, and today we where very fortunate that
he took time out to share his knowledge with us in
the fantastic seminar.
 Our
3 hour seminar kicked off with a 15 minute warm up,
under the instruction of Master Kirkwood, who then
introduced everyone to Mr lawson, and gave a brief
history on his achievements within Taekwondo and his
training!
Soon we found ourselves surrounding
Mr Lawson as he showed us the first of some basic
pressure point moves, it was unbelievable to think
that such a small move and pressure to a place in
the body, could inflict so much pain!
The first move, was simple! it placed
the fingers just above the collar bone and pressing
downwards, sent an electric shock through the body
and made the students knees buckle! From here we
advanced through palm strikes, hammer fist punches
and finger trusts to various parts of the torso,
head and neck.
His
takedowns where fast, hard and lethal and everyone
was so impressed by these simple moves, and eager to
learn so much more as the night went on.
One of the most prominent moves was
the hammer fist to the soft spot above the heart on
the rib cage, which buckled students, and we were
told if you hit hard enough it disrupted the heart
signals and could easily bring on a heart attack!
We were also shown palm strikes to
the forehead, at the same time applying a strike to
the base of the back of the neck! You may
think what would that do, but many of us after
having this done, had red shot eyes, dizziness and
some had to even take time out for a minute or two,
as it was so painful, and disrupted balance and
coordination.
 As
time passed by quickly we all became engrossed in
learning more, and the time taken in showing us each
move, personal one-to one training by Mr Lawson and
Master Kirkwood was fantastic!
Each and everyone who attended this
phenomenal event was totally blown away with the
expertise and knowledge held by Mr lawson. He would
explain everything from body anatomy and to how the
application of a pressure technique could disrupt
someone's heart beat, blood flow, nervous system and
so on.
The takedown shown to us, where very
fast and hard core. Again these applied clear and
precise application to certain points in the legs,
knee, inner thigh and hip bones! Some
incorporated hand techniques at the same time, which
made them doubly more deadly!
We will be scheduling a 2nd seminar
with Mr lawson either later on in the year, or early
next year within Scotland.
